Parent/Guardian Portal Help
About the Parent/Guardian Portal
The Parent/Guardian Portal allows parents and guardians to register their students for the U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad (USNCO). Students must meet the USNCO eligibility criteria: https://www.acs.org/education/olympiad/rules-and-eligibility
User Accounts
To access the Parent/Guardian portal and register a student for USNCO, you must first create an account: usncoreg.acs.org/users/sign_up (please note that you will be asked to verify your email address).
If you cannot locate your verification email, please check your spam or junk folder, or re-send the email here: usncoreg.acs.org/users/confirmation/new
Once your account is created and you have verified your email address, you will be automatically logged in to the Parent/Guardian Portal. When you need to access the portal again later, you can log in at usncoreg.acs.org.
To manage your user account, click on the user avatar in the top right corner of the page, and then click on manage account. Here you can change your name, phone number, email address, and password.
If you are logged out and need to reset your password, visit usncoreg.acs.org and click “Forgot your password?” You will need access to the email address associated with your account. Please reach out to a member of ACS staff at registrationusnco@acs.org for assistance if you no longer have access to your email address, or you want to delete your account.
Please note that creating an account does not register a student for USNCO; you must also complete, sign, and submit the registration form for each student that you want to register.
Parent/Guardian Dashboard
When you first log into the Parent/Guardian Portal, you will see your dashboard. This page contains an overview of the current USNCO program year’s key dates, and a link to the full details of the USNCO program. If you have registered any students, you will also see a list of those students and their registration status:
- Pending registrations have been started and saved for later, but not submitted. These must be completed and submitted before the registration deadline in order for the student to be considered for participation.
- Submitted registrations have been signed and submitted. Submitting a registration does not guarantee participation, it simply indicates that you have entered all of the required information for the student to be considered for participation.
Student registrations will not be retained in the system year to year; students will need to be registered each year they wish to participate. However, parents/guardians will not need to create a new user account and can use the same email address and password to register students in future years.
From your dashboard, you can also edit or delete your student registrations. Please note that after a registration has been submitted, some data cannot be changed through the Parent/Guardian Portal. Please reach out to your assigned Local Section Coordinator or an ACS staff member at registrationusnco@acs.org for assistance if you need to make changes to this information.

Student Registrations
To access the registration form, click register a student in the navigation menu. Here, you will be asked to enter information about the student to confirm their eligibility, consent, and other details that are necessary for their participation in USNCO.
The registration form can be saved and completed later. Please be sure to sign and submit the registration form for all interested students prior to the deadline. If a form has been saved for later but not fully submitted before the registration deadline, the student will not be able to participate.
Eligibility
You will be asked to indicate whether the student is interested and eligible to participate in:
- The Local Exam (required in order to submit the registration form, as this is the most basic form of participation)
- The National Exam (optional)
- Study Camp and International Chemistry Olympiad (optional)
Student Information
This section asks for basic details about the student and any accommodations they may need for the exam. You must submit supporting documentation to USNCO@acs.org at least two weeks prior to the exam.
High School Information
In this section you will be prompted to enter the type of school that the student attends, and based on this choice you will be asked for specific information which will be used to assign the student to the appropriate local section:
- Physical high school located in a U.S. state or territory
- You will enter the school address. The school address will also be used to look up the school in our internal database and assign the student to the corresponding Section.
- If a matching school record is found, the associated school information will be shown. If the school goes by a different name than the one shown, you can enter additional information in the form.
- If a matching school record is not found, you will need to enter the school name and website so that the school can be located and added to our database. This process helps us reduce duplicate schools in our records, and ensure that the correct school is chosen when multiple schools share the same name.
- American high school located outside the U.S. (e.g., on a U.S. military base abroad)
- You will enter the school address and country. The student registration will be reviewed by ACS staff and assigned to a participating international section, if possible.
- Homeschool
- You will enter the zip code of the student’s home. The section is assigned based on the student’s home location.
- Online school
- You will enter the zip code of the student’s home. The section is assigned based on the student’s home location.
- You will enter the zip code of the student’s home. The section is assigned based on the student’s home location.
Additionally, you will be asked for the name and email address of the student’s current chemistry teacher so that your Local Section Coordinator can work with your student’s teacher to administer exams and manage participation, if needed.
Consent & Signature
You will be asked for three required types of consent:
- Confirmation that you have read, understand, and agree to the ACS’s privacy practices
- Consent to share the information entered in the form with ACS staff and/or Local Section Coordinators for the purposes of their participation in USNCO
- Consent for you (the parent or guardian) to be contacted about the student’s participation in USNCO
And one optional type of consent:
- Consent for ACS staff and/or Local Section Coordinators to communicate directly with the student about participation in USNCO (if this consent is provided, you will be prompted to enter the student’s email address; note that many school email addresses do not allow for receipt of emails from external sources and you may need to provide a non-school email address)
After completing all required fields, you will need to sign the form by drawing your signature or typing your name.
